Frequently Asked Questions

How long will we continue to meet?

We’ll continue to meet until treatment goals have been reached, or until we decide that you no longer need my services. It really is a case-by-case basis, but usually people seek my services for 6-12 months, and some for several years.

Do you offer a discount?

Yes, I do offer a fixed amount of discounted rate sessions, and once those are filled, I do offer a waitlist. For additional information please call or email.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require a 48-hour cancellation policy. If you don’t cancel within that 48-hour window, or if you no-show, you will be charged for the full session fee. If you are sick and contagious, please stay home and take care of yourself. I understand that sometimes illnesses come on suddenly, so please contact me as soon as possible.

How can I book a session?

Please email me at julie@bloomwellcounseling.com if you’d like to schedule a session. Email is the best way to reach me and I’m usually able to respond within 24-hours during weekdays. Due to my schedule, please note that it can take substantially longer for me to return phone calls.

Do you offer Telehealth?

Yes. I offer telehealth on a HIPAA-compliant, secure platform. You can use your phone, or your computer. Please email me for more information.

I don’t live in Minnesota. Can you still be my therapist?

I’m only able to be your therapist if you are physically in MN at the time of our session.

If I’m on vacation or out of state, can I still meet with you virtually?

I’m only able to meet with you if you are physically in MN at the time of our session.

Why don’t you take insurance?

While it is helpful to use insurance benefits towards psychotherapy, what some people don’t realize is that when they do use their insurance, they are giving their insurance company access to their mental health diagnosis, and the insurance company can also request further information, such as progress notes and treatment plans. When people don’t utilize their insurance plans and pay out of pocket, everything remains completely confidential.

How long are your sessions?

Our sessions are typically 50-minutes.

How often will I come in for therapy?

To get good rapport and implement change, weekly or biweekly is best.

What to expect

Our sessions are 53 minutes in length. We will typically meet weekly, although it could be less frequent depending on your needs at that time. During our first session, we’ll go over the paperwork you’ve filled out, office policies, and then I’ll ask you some questions and what you’re hoping to get from our meetings. I’d love to hear your story, and what brought you into therapy. I’ll also start asking some questions about your family of origin, and we’ll spend some time making a genogram (kind of like a family tree). We may spend part of the next session finishing up your genogram, and during this time we can also figure out if we’re the best fit for each other to help you meet your treatment goals. Research has shown that one of the most important aspects is the therapeutic relationship--so it’s really important that we both feel like we’re a good fit for each other.

What next?

We’ll meet weekly, and during our work together, I welcome your feedback. I take on more of a collaborative approach, so think of it like you and I, as a team, tackling your treatment goals. It’s very important you feel our time together is working for you and meeting your needs. So, I may ask you from time to time how you feel about our work together and your progress toward your goals. My intention is to find the right approach that works for you in a way that helps you reach your treatment goals.

Graduating from therapy

The ultimate goal is for you to feel like you have the skills you need to combat whatever comes your way. We’ll both discuss when this time feels right, and on our last session we’ll have a commemorative event, celebrating all your hard work and growth. It’s really a special and meaningful way to end consistent therapy sessions. It’s also common for people to come back for tune-ups if they feel they could use some additional support for any new issues.
